Association Between Fuchs’ Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy Severity And Estrogen Exposure

PI: Sangita Patel, MD, PhD
Sponsor: National Institutes of Health

Brief Summary: This study is being done to discover if there is a link between estrogen exposure and the severity of Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy. We are trying to understand if the decrease in estrogen levels in post-menopausal women may be a reason why Fuchs dystrophy is seen more often in women than men. We are looking for men and women over age 55 years with a diagnosis of mild or severe Fuchs dystrophy. Recruitment for this study will close in 2023.
